PR’s manifesto repackaged as BN’s ‘moneyfesto’

PAS has found at least nine items in BN’s manifesto launched over the weekend which are actually copied from the PR manifesto that was heavily criticised by BN leaders when unveiled in February.

PAS secretary general Mustafa Ali said BN had only change its wording.

“The most obvious is BN’s promise to pay more than 20 percent oil royalty to oil producing states,” he said.

He said BN used different terminology in its manifesto while replicating policies mooted by PR.

Other ‘promises’ copied from PR's manifesto are reduction of car prices, affordable housing, inter-state highspeed train, Sabah-Sarawak linkage highway, taxi permits and data consolidation for security purposes.

Last Saturday, BN chairman Najib Razak announced that Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia would be increased to RM1,200.

Themed “Rakyat Didahulukan” (People First) under the title “Menepati Janji Membawa Harapan” (A Promise of Hope), BN’s manifesto, whose launching was telecast live on all public channels including public-funded RTM, covers 17 areas including rural development, youth, education, corruption and crime.

PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar said while BN’s manifesto was populist, there was something missing.

“It left out something more important, fundamental reforms,” she said.

DAP sectary general Lim Guan Eng meanwhile labeled BN’s manifesto as a "copycat manifesto".

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS information chief, who earlier pre-empted that Najib would replicate PR’s manifesto, described the BN’s promises as nothing new.

“The manifesto has become 'moneyfesto'. They copied and then just added more money to it. But, this is the first time BN has to publish a manifesto to counter the opposition. It looks like they are prepared for a historic defeat,” added the Pahang PAS comissioner. -HD

  1. Barisan Nasional leaders have described the pledges launched by BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak last night as better than the one by Pakatan Rakyat that was revealed last month.

Former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the BN manifesto came at a perfect time and was far better than the manifesto by the Opposition which was ‘filled with delusions’.

  2. “If the Opposition’s manifesto is to be put in place, the country will suffer huge losses.

“It is clear that the Opposition doesn’t know anything about the country’s finances, that’s why the came up with a very silly manifesto,” he said when met by reporters after the launch of the BN manifesto at the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil last night.

  3. For Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, he said the BN manifesto is a charter for the coalition’s victory in the 13th general election (GE13), which is just around the corner.

“We’ve made 17 pledges in the manifesto and all of them have been clearly spelled out by Najib… we leave no stones unturned,” the Information, Communication and Culture Minister said.

  4. Kelantan Umno liaison chief, Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamad said the country’s peace and stability could only be maintained by the BN administration.

The government would also ensure that its subsidies would only be enjoyed by those deserving and not everyone in Malaysia, including foreigners.

“What’s most important is to ease the rakyat’s burden, provide quality employment opportunities and high income for the people,” said the man more known as Tok Pa, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister.

  6. BN has proven its trustworthiness in uplifting nation'

The people should be rational in charting the future course of the country and Barisan Nasional is undoubtedly the only capable facilitator to bring the nation to greater heights.

For more than five decades, BN has proven its "trustworthiness" by transforming Malaysia's economy into what it is today, while sustaining a positive momentum in an effort to achieve a developed nation status, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said other than a strong economic foundation, Malaysia, through BN, had made record achievements in numerous aspects, including physical growth, socially, in religion and even in the arena of international politics.

Fresh from the launching of BN's manifesto on Saturday, Muhyiddin told TV3's Soal Jawab host Datuk Ahmad A. Talib last night that BN had not wavered in its endeavour to create a better future for the country.

Ahmad, who is Media Prima news and editorial operations executive director, had asked why BN should be given the mandate to govern the country, as some have opined that it should give way to the opposition coalition after ruling for decades.

"The answer should be easy. Take a look at what we have achieved. Many achievements have been made by BN and the people have benefited. Even the country's inflation rate is less than two per cent.

"If you want a guaranteed future, a sound economic situation, better opportunities in life and a brighter future, the people will, of course, pick the ones who have the experience (in governing)."

Muhyiddin advised the people against experimenting with their future by voting against BN, which he said could result in a regression of the country's development.

"Some people have commented that BN is old as it is more than 55 years old. But I say BN leaders are much 'younger' than leaders from the opposition."

He said 14,000 English teachers, out of 27,000, would be undergoing training to hone their teaching skills.

"This is in line with our plan to make English one of the compulsory subjects which students have to score at least a credit in to pass the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia."

LET'S US VOTE BN! WHY? WE CAN SEE CLEARLY THE REASON OF THAT. IT IS EVERYTHING IN FRONT OF OUR SIGHT!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Tambahnya lagi, hanya masa akan menentukan samada Pakatan Pembangkang terus bergolak dan berpecah namun hakikatnya sehingga ke hari ini, Pakatan masih belum berani untuk mengumumkan calon bahkan siapa bakal menjadi Perdana Menteri sekiranya Pakatan menang pun masih belum diumumkan.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And BN has shown its effectiveness.

  21. Jangan terpedaya janji pembangkang.

    ReplyDelete
  22. PR is only litterate by mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mau pok silap baini pembangkang.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Rintangan yang ditempuhi banyak.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Setiausaha Agung Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor membidas pakatan pembangkang yang mendakwa aku janji BN untuk berdepan Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13 adalah ciplak daripada manifesto pembangkang.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

  32. It was Pakatan Rakyat that copied BN’s ideas when drafting its manifesto, Muhyiddin Yassin has countered in a tit-for-tat response on similarities between the two documents.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Rejecting Pakatan allegations of plagiarism, the deputy BN head pointed to elements allegedly copied from BN’s policies and ideas, such as pledges to reduce toll charges and car prices.

    ReplyDelete
  34. he reduction of car prices will be fully implemented under an Asean Free Trade Area agreement, he said, and this would have been achieved “even without any proposal from anyone” once import duties are abolished.

    ReplyDelete
  35. At a press conference in Gombak today, Muhyiddin said a large part of Pakatan’s manifesto has already been implemented by BN.

But even as he insisted that Pakatan copied BN’s manifesto, Muhyiddin maintained that the former’s manifesto is not a do-able one and that it could bankrupt the nation’s coffers.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Pakatan’s pledges, he said, could increase the budget deficit from 4.5 percent to 11 percent, for which PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli will not be able to provide an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  37. He may not know (how to answer) as he’s not an expert. They want to do like what we have done, but (it turned out negatively),” he said.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Muhyiddin further said the Pakatan manifesto disregards the impact of its promises on certain business sectors such as the used-car industry.

In contrast, he claimed, BN had drafted its manifesto by taking a holistic approach.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Although the BN has been criticised as being “populist” for having handed out pre-election sweeteners, Muhyiddin defended this, saying that the financial aspects have been duly considered.

He also said that implementing the BN manifesto will not increase government debt.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Respons awal pihak Pakatan Rakyat terhadap pembentangan komitmen Aku Janji Barisan Nasional, manifesto mendepani PRU-13 adalah menuduh komitmen BN menciplak dan meniru Manifesto mereka. Malahan, Naib Presiden PKR, YB Nurul Izzah menyatakan BN telah melakukan satu tindakan plagiarisme.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  57. Benar, kita tidak mengangkat roh reformasi sebaliknya BN tekad menjunjung jiwa transformasi demi rakyat 1Malaysia. Saf BN percaya harapan rakyat bukan suatu mimpi tetapi jalan menjadikan impian suatu realiti.

    ReplyDelete
  58. BN manifesto scores on specifics:

THE first criterion is practicality. Practicality can mean different things but here it is whether the policies are actionable rather than just lofty motherhood statements.

    ReplyDelete
  59. On this score, the BN manifesto scores. In all 17 areas covered, there were specifics about what had been achieved in the past five years and what would be done in the next five, so no problems there.Of course, one can argue whether these are the right actions but that is another matter. In general, there needs to be a lot more serious dialogue on the what, how, when and why of projects and programmes.

    ReplyDelete
  60. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE second criterion is recognition of interdependencies. A weakness of policy formulation everywhere is that it is often done in "silos", that is, it does not take into account what is happening and what the needs are elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  61. For example, the civil service is certainly a vital institution but how do the vast resources diverted to it impact on the private sector, especially in terms of the availability and cost of a limited pool of manpower?

Also what are the effects of the large investments in public transport and other infrastructure, affordable housing and health services on credit markets? What are the effects on the external current account balance?

These and other questions are not addressed and the fair thing to say is that the jury is out, and not just on the BN manifesto but also the Pakatan Rakyat's.

    ReplyDelete
  62. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE third criterion has to do with incentives, that is, that policies do not reward unproductive and penalise productive behaviour.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The fact that this is in cash and targeted also speaks well of it. The same cannot be said for non-cash and non-targeted assistance, namely energy and food subsidies, which lead to distortion and waste on a massive scale. It should be pointed out that the other initiatives of the manifesto means that some Malaysians will receive multiple assistance. On the cash aid alone, however, I think that the BN manifesto does not quite go overboard and deserves a passing grade.

    ReplyDelete
  64. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE fourth criterion is financial sustainability. Economists would not be economists if they did not mention budget constraints. Given the public debt problems faced by many countries, this is not to be taken lightly.

    ReplyDelete
  65. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE fifth is innovation. Einstein once defined insanity as doing the same things over and over and expecting different results.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The centrepiece of the manifesto, and the key to achieving all its aspects, is the building of a resilient, dynamic and innovative economy. Without a strong economic base, everything else is just a pipe dream. If there is one vital difference between the BN and the PR manifesto, it is on the need to be pro-growth and pro-business.

    ReplyDelete
  67. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE sixth is external orientation. If Malaysia is really to be competitive and dynamic, it must liberalise its markets and promote cross-border interactions.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The BN manifesto clearly states it supports the realisation of the Asean Economic Community and enhancing economic and bilateral interests. (Strangely, this was placed under the Global Movement of Moderates.)

    ReplyDelete
  69. BN manifesto scores on specifics

THE seventh and lastly, is social capital and inclusiveness. As befits election manifestos, this is the strong suit of both the BN and PR. Both sides get top scores in my opinion.
