Johor and Pahang PAS get boost in Felda areas for GE

A former senior official of Felda in Johor will be among the PAS candidates for the 13th general election.

Johor PAS deputy commissioner Mazlan Aliman (pic) said the candidate, a local, has been active with PAS in tackling Felda issues.

PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat will officially announce Johor PAS candidates tomorrow.

“The candidacy of this particular former official of Felda demonstrates PAS’s willingness to absorb people from all sections of the community,” Mazlan told Harakahdaily.

Mazlan, who heads the vocal National Felda Settlers’ Children Association or ANAK, said many former Felda settlers are ready to help the Islamic party and Pakatan Rakyat in their campaign to wrest the BN stronghold.

“This group used to be a challenge to PAS because of their support to BN, but this time around, they are helping PAS,” he said, adding he was convinced that PAS could penetrate Felda areas long seen as BN’s 'fixed deposits'.

Meanwhile in Pahang, PAS received a boost following the entry of Felda Jengka 9 chief Yusof Hasan into the party's folds.

His membership form was passed to Pahang PAS commissioner Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Yusof, who was the UMNO division chief from 1987 to 2007, had been Jengka 9 headman for 10 years until 2007.
