The leaked documents detailing PKR's “Kajang move”, purportedly written by the party's strategy director Rafizi Ramli, are fake, PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil said today.
He said this was evident by the fact that the document referred to the move as "Langkah Kajang" rather than "Serampang Kajang", the name Rafizi had used to engineer a by-election in the Kajang state seat.
"I confirm that the document is false and libellous," said Fahmi in a statement today.
"In fact, anyone who reads Rafizi's blog would know that when the ‘Kajang move’ was initiated, he referred to it by the name 'Serampang Kajang'."
He said the party condemned the irresponsible act of spreading misinformation by their political rivals.
He added that it was proof Malaysian politics remained immature and that PKR's political adversaries refused to engage with them through ideas and concepts.
"They are trapped within politics of obscenity and slander," said Fahmi.
Rafizi was the architect of the “Kajang move” meant to replace Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar was to contest the Kajang by-election after PKR assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh vacated the seat. But the PKR de facto leader was disqualified on March 7 when he was convicted of sodomising his former aide in 2006.
His wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, took his place, and the “Kajang move” continued with her poised to replace Khalid for the top post in the country's richest state.
Khalid refused to step down and was eventually sacked from the party on August 9 for his defiance. However, he still remains menteri besar and leads the state government with four PAS executive councillors.
PAS had previously supported Khalid but, on Sunday, said it would stand with PR but it decided to back Dr Wan Azizah and her deputy, Azmin Ali, for the MB post.
But some members of the Islamist party remain bitter over the decision and have urged PAS to reconsider its stance. -TMI
