MCA plays dirty by putting up fake PAS banners

While BN banners are put up in full scale in many neighbourhoods in clear violation of campaign rules, a number of 'PAS banners' have also surfaced - with a message reflecting the anti-hudud obsession of BN's Chinese-only party MCA.

Banners in Chinese calling for the implementation of the Islamic capital punishment for serious crimes were put up at several spots in what is believed to create the impression among the Chinese - MCA's sole target for support in the coming elections - that PAS is battling for hudud despite not being included in Pakatan Rakyat's popular manifesto.

One of the banners which was hung in a pre-dominant Chinese neighbourhood (pic) has pictures of PAS president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, and reads: "Hudud is the only way to fight crime".

A local resident asked why the banners appear in Chinese and not in the national language.

MCA, which analysts say could be participating in its last general election before being 'wiped-out' at the coming polls, has in recent times made issues related to Islam and Islamic laws as its central theme, hoping a shift of the non-Muslims' overwhelming support to PAS.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reported that several other 'fake' PR banners were removed by PAS workers in Semenyih, Meru, Shah Alam, Kota Raja, Klang and Subang Jaya.

The portal also quoted Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh as saying that some 50 such banners have been discovered in Kelana Jaya, part of the Subang Jaya state seat which has the nation's highest number of voters among state constituencies.

"We hereby remind the Kelana Jaya BN to stop employing dirty tricks, and that it is about time that the leaders of Kelana Jaya MCA begin assuming responsibility for the misconduct of their members and supporters," Hannah said. -HD
