'Hyperactive' Mahathir, not Najib, leading BN's campaign

DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang said BN chairman Najib Razak is not in charge of charting the coalition’s campaign.

Instead, Lim observed that the current campaign is being helmed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I particularly mention Mahathir as it is clear from the past 100 days that the longest-serving former Prime Minister has fully come out of the shadows to become the most powerful politician in UMNO – even more powerful than the current Prime Minister and UMNO President Najib – which is why Mahathir could publicly issue the ultimatum that Najib will have to give way to Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister if Najib failed to achieve a better results for UMNO/BN than in the 2008 general elections,” said Lim, who was the parliamentary opposition leader during the former UMNO strongman's reign.

Lim said Mahathir’s doomsday prediction on Najib should not be taken lightly judging from how he had pushed out Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from office following the latter's snubbing of his pet projects.

Lim concluded that Najib's silence over Mahathir's public remarks endorsing right-wing BN ally Perkasa showed the UMNO president's fear of his mentor.

Mahathir recently said that Malaysia would be safer if there were more people like Ibrahim Ali, the Perkasa chief.

Mahathir’s hyperactivity, said Lim, has turned the coming general election into a double referendum on Najib’s four-year premiership and his national transformation agenda as well as on Mahathir’s 22-year record in running the country. -HD

  1. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged Malay Barisan Nasional supporters to vote for the coalition's candidates regardless of their race to ensure a big win in the general election.

  2. The former prime minister said that since Umno depended on minority non-Malay support in many of the constituencies it contested, Barisan Malay supporters should reciprocate by voting in non-Malay candidates from other component parties.

  3. “Some people say Barisan shouldn't field a Chinese candidate in their area because the majority of voters are Malay, but they must realise that victory for Malay candidates in other constituencies will depend on the minority Chinese voters,” he said at a briefing session entitled The Malaysian Constitution: The Future of National Security organised by the Bandar Tun Razak Human Development Club.

  4. He related his own experience in 1969 when he failed to defend his Kota Setar Selatan Parliamentary seat where the Malays made up 80% of the voters.Dr Mahathir said he lost because the Chinese voted for his opponent from PAS.

  5. He stressed that power-sharing was a key element in Malaysian society and was reflected in Barisan politics. “This (power-sharing) is what a coalition is about,” he said. Unlike Barisan, Dr Mahathir said, Pakatan Rakyat was not a coalition but “merely an agreement”, giving rise to the question of how it could ever form a federal government with PAS and DAP pulling in opposite directions.

  16. DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has gone to town with his 'Vision 2050', in the hope that his dream will somehow attract Gelang Patah voters. Unfortunately for him, Barisan Nasional is already implementing this bright future across the nation.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Kit Siang claimed his 'Vision 2050' would transform government processes, ensure income equality across racial boundaries, and bring about social cohesion by the year 2050.

  18. Perhaps he should look out of his ivory tower and recognise the sweeping transformation underway in Malaysia. Saved
 Under BN, governance has been streamlined and made efficient (GTP), the economy is booming (thanks to ETP), and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has ensured that all communities will benefit from the nation's progress (1Malaysia).

  19. Yes, all this by 2013. And by 2020, Malaysia can expect to reach high-income status under BN, with a per capita income of RM48,000.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So not only is 72-year old Kit Siang three decades too late, but he hasn't even realised it. In his drive to win voters in his Johor parliamentary seat, Kit Siang told them to try "re-imagining" what Malaysia can be in 37 years' time.

  21. What does the DAP veteran's dream future consist of? He claimed that by 2050 all parents and children would have access to different educational options. Really? This is going to take place by 2025 under BN's National Educational Blueprint (2013-2015).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kit Siang also claimed there would be accountability structures at all levels of government by 2050, and that the public service delivery system would be improved.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Perhaps he should consider the progress already being made under the Government Transformation Programme (GTP), which the World Bank pointed out has made significant strides.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Moreover, a quarter more rural households than targeted now have access to clean water, the World Bank said, as well as developments in education with respect to pre-school enrolments. Overall poverty has also been reduced from 3.8 per cent in 2009 to 1.7 per cent last year. Under BN, therefore, there is no need to wait for 2050.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kit Siang's 'Vision 2050' shows, once again, how far behind the curve Pakatan Rakyat's thinking really is. Instead of what can be achieved now, its leaders are busy painting a distant future.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is clear from the two manifestos presented to the public that a BN government will ensure that Pakatan's vision of 2050 will be made a reality by 2020.

  34. Pemimpin yang tidak terpilih harus berfikiran positif.
