Former police chief Musa Hassan believes the recruitment of 4,000 police personnel per year as stated in the BN manifesto overrules Pakatan Rakyat’s suggestion to redeploy Special Branch officers to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He said this today when asked to weigh-in on both BN and Pakatan’s suggestions to maximise the potential of our police force.
“When I was in service, I had requested for more recruitment of officers but they had rejected my proposal. I don’t think the government could afford it back then,” Musa told a press conference here.
Musa believed the police would reach their maximum potential in combating crime if “they have enough manpower”.
“So I think they should recruit to have enough manpower. This is not only for having people doing rounds for crime prevention, but most importantly for intelligence,” he explained.
“If 3,000 officers retire in a year, the force’s efficient rate will be affected. That’s why the government must maintain its population,” he added.
Musa then further explained that “intelligence” included “economic, crime, political and environmental intelligence” and was not just a “single” (crime) branch.
During its manifesto launch on Saturday, the BN promised to increase the PDRM by 4,000 police personnel per year, strengthening the PDRM Motorcycle Patrol Unit by 5,000 vehicles, and enrolling an additional 50,000 Police Volunteer Reserves.
‘Ensure smooth transition if there is change in power’
Musa also hoped the police would ensure “smooth transition” if opposition Pakatan captures Putrajaya during the upcoming general election.
“The police must observe the situation and make sure there is no incidents that will affect the peace,” he said.
“The PM has also guaranteed smooth transition of power so I don’t see a big problem if Pakatan wins,” he added.
Musa reminded the people that this was a democratic country, and that both leaders and public alike should accept the election results because “it’s the people’s choice”.
“Everybody must be wise and cool-headed and accept the results. What we want is a peaceful country,” he said.
Musa then dismissed allegations by opposition supporters that the police force was merely taking orders from top BN leaders.
“There have been no interference as far as I know. There had been no interference during my service,” he said.
“PDRM is neutral. The police must be neutral. They should do things fairly and neutral without getting directions from anyone.” -FMT

Among the pledges made by BN to lessen the people’s burden is providing affordable homes to ensure that the supply of housing is continued in Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Tangga Batu MP Datuk Idris Haron, BN’s pledge to build one million affordable homes, including 500,000 more homes under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA), would be implemented by both public and private sectors.
“One million homes in five years is something achievable; Najib has taken into consideration the country’s manpower and resources… the numbers are based on those factors.
ReplyDelete“The program under the Housing and Local Government Ministry is proof that we are in a position to fulfill our promises to voters,” said Idris, who is also Syarikat Perumahan Nasional Bhd (SPNB) chairman.
Meanwhile, deputy Selangor Umno state liaison, Datuk Seri Noh Omar said the pledges by BN have no financial implications and were based on today’s reality.
ReplyDeleteIt differs from the Opposition’s manifesto, he said, where its implementation would increase Malaysia’s debts by RM2.4 billion.
“BN can execute its manifesto… our focus is on elevating the rakyat’s quality of life, education as well as national security. Most importantly, it would not jeopardize the country’s economic status, unlike the manifesto cooked up by the Opposition.
ReplyDelete“If Pakatan were to fulfill all their 2008 promises in Selangor alone to aid all single mothers, senior citizens and schoolchildren, we have calculated that they would incur an additional RM2.4 billion debt in five years.
“If they were to fulfill all their promises, they would have no savings left,” Noh said.
ReplyDeleteHis statement was supported by MIC’s Hulu Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan, who said the Opposition did not even have a proper manifesto in the first place, and that they practiced ‘cartoon politics’.
“Does the Opposition really have a manifesto? Those are not promises but merely a play of cartoon politics. Tell them to fulfill their GE12 promises in Selangor first, only then they can talk about coming up with a new manifesto,” he stressed.
ReplyDeleteHe said, the 17 pledges in the BN manifesto would be their ammo in their battle in GE13.
ReplyDelete“The PM has taken into consideration all needs by different groups – among them youth, women, the disabled as well as Indians, in providing more schools and places of worships for us,” said Kamalanathan, who is also MIC information chief.
Former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the BN manifesto came at a perfect time and was far better than the manifesto by the Opposition which was ‘filled with delusions’.
ReplyDelete“If the Opposition’s manifesto is to be put in place, the country will suffer huge losses.
The government would also ensure that its subsidies would only be enjoyed by those deserving and not everyone in Malaysia, including foreigners.
ReplyDelete“They (the pledges) are realistic…the government is able to execute them. After the (Selangor) water issue is resolved, a lot more investments can proceed smoothly.
“What’s most important is to ease the rakyat’s burden, provide quality employment opportunities and high income for the people,” said the man more known as Tok Pa, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister.
“We’ve made 17 pledges in the manifesto and all of them have been clearly spelled out by Najib… we leave no stones unturned,” the Information, Communication and Culture Minister said.
ReplyDeleteBN MANIFESTO IS THE BEST : SARAWAKIAN
ReplyDeleteThe Barisan Nasional (BN) manifesto launched by its chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently is a promise to the people in this country, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Development) cum Resource Planning Assistant Minister Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
“As a Sarawakian I see it as the best manifesto, not just mere statement but a pledge made by the BN government to deliver something for the people comprising all sectors: education, welfare, economy, people’s security and others,” he said
BN MANIFESTO IS THE BEST : SARAWAKIAN
ReplyDeleteMohd Naroden said the people need to trust and support the BN government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in its effort to implement the manifesto successfully.
Meanwhile, state BN secretary Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said it is a holistic manifesto that includes all walks of life.
This is a realistic manifesto that can be achieved by the BN. It’s a promise to get continued support from the people for another five years so all the promises can be fulfilled.
BN MANIFESTO IS THE BEST : SARAWAKIAN
ReplyDelete“We believe it can be implemented, it is not just empty promises for Sarawak – we are given the privilege to provide input for Sarawak’s needs.
“We want smooth administration, good economic approach, social approach and most important thing for Sarawak to be a high income state by year 2020,” said the Assistant Minister of Public Utilities ((Electricity and Telecommunication)

ReplyDeleteHe said federal BN will work with state BN and the promise of a wider Pan Borneo highway is a dream come true.
The Kemena assemblyman said the mandate by the people in this coming general election is important for the continuity of government development policies and projects such as under the National Key Results Area to improve infrastructure implementation and basic facilities in Sarawak like water and electricity
'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDeleteWHO COPIED WHOM? Pakatan Rakyat 'copied' existing policies introduced by BN, says DPM
GOMBAK: THE Barisan Nasional (BN) general election manifesto is all-inclusive than the opposition's which copied the existing policies and initiatives introduced by the government, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDeleteResponding to accusations that the BN "copied" Pakatan Rakyat's (PR) election manifesto, Muhyiddin, who is also BN chairman, said the opposition's proposed plans to cut car prices and manage high cost of living had already been put in place by the government.
"The opposition lacks experience. So, perhaps, they do not realise that prices of cars have already dropped, regardless of any plans to cut them. The government has also eased the people's financial burden with the reduction of cost of goods, including the price of fuel.
'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDelete"Pakatan is merely looking to lower these further. So, it's the other way around. It was them who copied us," he said after presenting awards to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2012 outstanding students at Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi here yesterday.
Present were deputy education minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong and education director-general Datuk Abdul Ghafar Mahmud.
Muhyiddin, who is also the education minister, also took Parti Keadilan Rakyat strategic director Rafizi Ramli to task for failing to address expert findings that the policies proposed by the opposition manifesto would raise the national deficit from 4.5 per cent to 11 per cent.

'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDelete"Until now, Rafizi hasn't been able to give a proper response on this matter... and yet he accuses us of launching a ciplak (copycat) manifesto.
"The question now is, who copied who?"
In contrast, Muhyiddin said, the BN had considered Malaysia's wealth to ensure its proposed policies would not take a toll on the country's finances.
"We have calculated the five-year costs, taking into account the country's annual income and reserves, including the projected growth in foreign investment and other sectors.
'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDelete"At the same time, we have made sure that we can carry out these proposals while reducing the national deficit.
"There's no use spending on various programmes if the debt keeps increasing," Muhyiddin said.
He said the opposition election manifesto was based on a populist approach, designed to please certain groups while affecting others at the same time.
'Opposition lacks experience'
ReplyDelete"Pakatan's plan to cut prices of cars immediately may be popular, but fails to account for the damaging effect it will have, for example, on the secondhand car industry.
"Financial analysts have also described many of its election manifesto promises as undoable, and that they can bankrupt the country within two years."
I do agree the statement from former police chief Musa Hassan that police would reach their maximum potential in combating crime if “they have enough manpower”. Intelligence also important for him, so there is no harm to recruit more police personnel.
ReplyDeleteYawn. Musa is on the prowl again.
ReplyDeleteFormer Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan has alleged close ties between the country's top brass and underworld kingpins. Yet his timing is suspect, coming barely months before GE 13.
ReplyDelete"When criminals are close to the 'higher-ups', those who are betrayed are society," he told The Malaysian Insider, without disclosing any identities. Naturally.
ReplyDeleteQuestions have been raised over why Musa didn't take action against such "criminals" when he was the country's top cop. Why did he wait till just before an election to launch a political attack on the government?
ReplyDeleteHe has now realised that singing the Opposition's tune can come at a price. RM100 million, to be exact.
ReplyDeleteMusa faces a RM100 million lawsuit from businessman Robert Phang for accusing Phang and the police force of corruption. Phang told reporters last week that he has lodged a police report against the former IGP and plans to sue him too.
ReplyDeletePhang said the purpose of the lawsuit was to "guide" Musa to tell the truth, and that the former cop was a "spiteful man who spreads falsehood." Ouch.
ReplyDeleteMusa is learning the hard way that if you want to throw stones you must first have an impeccable record yourself.
ReplyDeleteProminent lawyer Rosli Dahlan, who has dealt with Musa up close, said the former IGP is now singing the Opposition's tune in an attempt to cosy up to Pakatan Rakyat just in case the coalition takes power at Putrajaya.
ReplyDeleteYet for all of Musa's talk of crime rate, PEMANDU's figures show that index crime in 2011 had actually dropped by an impressive 11.1 per cent from 2010, while street crime dipped a staggering 39.7 per cent in the same period.
ReplyDeleteIndex crime dropped further by 10.1 per cent from January to May this year compared to the same period in 2011. No wonder Rosli criticised Musa's recent revelations of alleged ministerial interference
ReplyDelete"Musa is a manipulator, opportunist and a liar. He is a principal lecturer at UiTM in media warfare, so we should not be surprised that he is using the media to reinvent his image," Rosli was quoted recently by Free Malaysia Today.
ReplyDelete"Clearly, Musa knows he will be in trouble if Pakatan forms the next government," claimed Rosli.
ReplyDeleteHe will also be in trouble if Barisan Nasional wins the general election.
ReplyDeleteJaminan PRU berlangsung tertib
ReplyDeleteperbankan.
- Bernama
Now ex IGP is voicing it out again.
ReplyDeleteApa pun yang berlaku saya pasti kita mampu mengubahnya.
ReplyDeleteMiracle is always happening.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong to deploy such number of personnel though.
ReplyDeleteWhy it should be like this is Pakatan and this is BN?
ReplyDeleteJangan asyik nak bandingkan itu ini.
ReplyDeleteHe wants to be the IGP again is it?
ReplyDeleteNampak gayanya macam tu la.
ReplyDeleteKesiannye kat dia.
ReplyDeleteJangan lupa laksanakan tanggungjawab anda.
manifesto terbaik menarik sokongan rakyat
ReplyDeletePolice will be resolute in taking action against those who violate the law so that the 13th general election (GE13) will be smooth and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteFederal Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid said the force would not compromise the safety and security of Malaysians during and after the elections.
ReplyDelete“We will not take any chances,” he told The Star. “Supporters and members of political parties and the public are advised to adhere to the law.”
ReplyDeleteComm Salleh said the force had been on “a high state of readiness” since an election drill named “X-Ballot” was conducted in February.
ReplyDeleteAt that exercise, 112,000 police personnel “tested out” 570 possible scenarios that ranged from fighting among supporters and removing of rival posters to the unlikely prospect of chaos and a state of emergency.
ReplyDeleteComm Salleh said police personnel nationwide had also been trained on efficient crowd control.Among the steps to ensure this on nomination day was to keep opposing groups of supporters more than 100m apart.
ReplyDeleteComm Salleh said based on past elections, among the most common complaints received were posters and flags being put up on lamp posts, road signs and traffic lights.
ReplyDeleteComm Salleh said the GE13 would be the first to use the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012 prior to nomination day.The Act stipulates that the authorities need only be told of any gathering, at least 10 days in advance.
ReplyDeleteAny organiser of a ceramah or public gathering should also adhere to the rules and regulations set by a premise owner or local authority. “Such events should not involve children, unless permitted otherwise by the authorities.”
ReplyDeleteAsst Comm Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, who is the assistant head of the IGP's secretariat (Public Relations), said the PAA was flexible, giving people more freedom to gather as long as they did not disrupt public order.
