DAP candidate sees red over 1M’sia rice

Rice and goodies with the 1 Malaysia logo were distributed from a truck at the Pandamaran wet market yesterday morning, claims Klang DAP Candidate Charles Santiago.

“This is an act of buying votes and it is totally unethical for a political party to do so,” he said.

The truck which carried the caretaker government’s banners and pictures of the candidate contesting under the party, unloaded rice and other household groceries containing the 1Malaysia logo to the public.

“I will soon lodge a police report on this matter and will take up this matter to the Election Commission. If the EC does not take any action on this, it will reflect their support towards BN, Santiago told FMT.

“PM had earlier pledged for a clean and fair elections and I don’t see the pledge being kept,” he added.

Santiago was referring to Najib Tun Razak signing the Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) Election Integrity Pledge. Najib declared that he would observe principles of truth, integrity, ethical conduct and accountability, including not accepting or giving bribes or being involved in any way in corrupt practices.

Santiago, who is also the incumbent of the Klang parliamentary seat, faces MCA candidate Teh Kim Poo this time around. In the 2008 election, Santiago won with a majority of 17, 701 votes. -FMT

  1. Despite the DAP's best efforts ahead of GE13 to portray itself as multicultural, it remains a Chinese-dominated party where Malays and Indian members find little acceptance.

    ReplyDelete
  2. So while the party continues to criticise PAS' hudud agenda, the DAP is just as guilty of being single-minded when it comes to race and interlinked issues. In fact, the party often seems the Chinese mirror image of PAS.

  3. From its shabby treatment of former vice-president Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim, to the fiasco over its disputed Central Executive Committee (CEC) election, the DAP has ridden roughshod over the rights of its non-Chinese members.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Tunku Aziz was the senior-most Malay leader of the DAP – joining in 2008 as vice-chairman – till he was forced to leave last year by the Lim dynasty for speaking his mind against Bersih 3.0. Bereft of a senior Malay face, the DAP has since struggled to attract voters from the majority community.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Its credibility was further damaged by its internal election last December where DAP delegates were to elect 20 leaders into the party's top decision-making body, the CEC. After only Chinese members were 'elected' to the CEC, it was discovered that the vote count had been fudged. Despite this blot on its reputation, the DAP has so far refused to hold a fresh internal election in a transparent manner. Again, while choosing candidates for GE13, the DAP leadership has gone to town claiming that it has fielded non-Chinese candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  6. But on closer scrutiny, it turns out that the DAP has fielded these non-Chinese candidates only in Malay strongholds where they stand no chance. Chinese candidates, meanwhile, have got the safe Chinese-majority constituencies, where they know they can win.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The party is therefore aware of where its core support lies, and the Lim dynasty hypocritically manipulates it, while claiming to everyone else that it is a multi-ethnic party. The DAP's racist underpinnings were exposed in 2011 when two prominent DAP leaders in Perak were caught making racist comments against Indians.

    ReplyDelete
  8. First Nga Kor Ming, the DAP Perak secretary, called Perak Mentri Besar Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir a "metallic black person". This was in September 2011 at a DAP ceramah, a video clip of which surfaced later. As if that wasn't enough, he followed it up by calling Dr. Zambry a 'haram jadah' or bastard. And then in December 2011, his cousin Ngeh Koo Kam, the party's Perak chairman, tweeted that Indians are "Not as stupid as they think they are". The tweet was naturally removed from his twitter page later.

  9. Both these racist politicians tried to backtrack after people reacted in outrage, but their clumsy efforts only compounded their misery. Perhaps the more telling issue was DAP's response to the whole sordid affair.

  10. The party command remained uncharacteristically silent. Not a word from Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, or even Karpal Singh. The trio that never tires of raising their voices against injustice, were apparently tongue-tied when the perpetrators were from their own party. As for Nga and Negh, they are now being fielded as DAP candidates in GE13.

  11. So despite the token presence of Karpal as the party's national chairman, the DAP continues to push its Chinese-first policies, while trying to convince sceptical Malay and Indian voters that it is somehow multi-racial.

  12. Jangan terpedaya kempen berunsur sukuan: Abd Ghapur

Parlimen Kalabakan mempunyai 46,793 pengundi.

  13. LIES & EMPTY PROMISES

Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has hit out at the Opposition for making last-minute promises in a bid to garner Indian votes for the 13th general election.

DAP's announcing the party's so-called blueprint for the Indians clearly showed that Pakatan Rakyat, as a whole, was not interested in the community's well-being

“Why should only DAP come out with a separate blueprint for the Indians when it should be the Pakatan's task? This shows that the coalition is not sincere in helping the Indian community,” he added

Samy Vellu, who is the Special Envoy for Infrastructure for India and South Asia, said the fact that only DAP had “invented something out of thin air for the Indian community” reflected the double standards practised by the Opposition pact.

“This is not the right way. They have to be sincere in what they want to do for the Indians. Don't just come out with a last-minute plan to woo the Indians. The so-called blueprint by DAP for the Indians did not receive the support of the Pakatan leadership.

Samy Vellu said Barisan Nasional, under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's leadership, has rolled out an action plan for the community, which is being implemented.

  14. ANOTHER LIES & EMPTY PROMISES

THE Barisan Nasional hit out at the DAP Gelang Patah Declaration as merely a copycat as most of the items listed have already been or are being implemented by BN.

It was also sceptical if the party would honour all the 14 promises in the declaration, as many of the Pakatan Rakyat promises made in 2008 were not fulfilled.

Speaking at a joint press conference by the Malaysian Chinese Association, the Malaysia Indian Congress and the People's Progressive Party (PPP), MCA Gelang Patah division chairman Jason Teoh questioned why it was called DAP Gelang Patah Declaration instead of Pakatan Rakyat Gelang Patah Declaration.

He said nothing about the welfare of Indians was mentioned in the PR's manifesto and Buku Jingga, and questioned the DAP whether the Indian community should refer to the declaration, the manifesto or the Buku Jingga.

"After the DAP Gelang Patah Declaration, will there be a different set of declaration for Kluang, Bakri, and Kulai?

"BN has done a lot for the Indian community, be it land approval for Hindu temples, Tamil schools, micro-credit scheme or study loans, the Indian community has never been left behind."
Present were MIC Gelang Patah division chairman S. Kanan and Johor PPP chairman Datuk Dr Siva Kumar.

Teoh also presented a RM5,000 cheque for SJK (T) Taman Tun Aminah partially damaged by a storm on Feb 22.

Kanan said nothing about the welfare of Indians was stated in both the PR manifesto and Buku Jingga, yet DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang made a lot of promises during his ceramah in the state lately. He said this was merely to cheat the Indian community.

"The Indian community in Gelang Patah does not welcome him to contest in the constituency. The MCA has done a good job in helping the Indian community. Lim is just parachuting here.
"For a DAP supremo like him, he should consider contesting against people like the prime minister."

Dr Siva criticised the first promise in the declaration, which was to resolve the problem of stateless Indians within 100 days of the PR administration.
He said the opposition could not even solve the problem in 100 days in Kedah, Penang and Selangor, and yet DAP wanted to make such promise in Johor.

"The declaration also states it wants to alienate land for existing Hindu temples.

"For his information, there are 28 Hindu temples in Gelang Patah alone, which is more than for other races.
"There are four Tamil schools which are more than sufficient for the constituency."

There are about 13,026 Indians in Gelang Patah, constituting about 12.4 per cent of the 104,496 voters.

Teoh is tipped to contest Lim in the 13th General Election.
In Putrajaya, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam described DAP's Gelang Patah manifesto for the Indian community as a copy of the government's existing development programme.

The human resources minister said the opposition party's manifesto to supposedly improve the socio-economic status of the Indian community was part of efforts and transformation plans carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"There's nothing new in the manifesto. Everything in it is already being taken care of by the government. We began working on the issues since 2009.

"We've seen results such as development in Tamil schools, education, job opportunities, skills and vocational training, efforts to increase income, issues on documentation and more."

  15. ANOTHER LIES & EMPTY PROMISES

BN-SUPP candidate for Sibu Vincent Lau Lee Ming said he was upset when issues surrounding DAP’s promises arose in this election campaign.

Speaking at the SUPP ceramah at Market Road on Monday, he said he had even raised his voice in some ceramahs because he could become emotional when touching on the subject.

He said DAP had been stirring the people by repeatedly saying they wanted to lead in bringing change, which until today they had not been able to do.

“The people have been bullied and cheated. None of DAP’s promises have been fulfilled.”

On Pakatan Rakyat (PR), he said it was a loose pact formed by DAP, PKR and PAS, which had conflicting ideologies.

“How can the pact be trusted when they have been condemning each other?”

Recalling that DAP had been condemning PAS for wanting to build an Islamic state, he said the partnership came about because DAP knew that they could not achieve their ambitions alone.

“They know if they want to rule and grab power, they need PAS.”
This was unlike the BN coalition which was committed to building harmony, stability and prosperity through power sharing, he explained.

He thus hoped that Chinese voters would not waste their votes on the opposition this May 5 election because it would tantamount to giving up their progress and benefits.

“The DAP wants the support of the Chinese voters, yet, they cannot help their community.”

In his speech, SUPP Sibu branch chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said some youths had admitted that they had voted for DAP because they wanted to air their dissatisfactions and that the opposition had promised to bring change.

“But where is this change? The only change I can see is the Chinese community losing their political strength in the government after they voted for DAP,” said the Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development.

“Change must come gradually, otherwise it will tilt the stability of a society,” he added.
