Altantuya's father pleads justice for his daughter

Murdered Mongolian translator Altantuya's father Shaariibuu Setev has made a passionate plea to the millions of Malaysians voting on Sunday: Please help bring justice for Altantuya, whose date of birth is May 6.

In a four paragraph statement, Shaariibuu said the two sons of his daughter, who was brutally murdered in Malaysia, have no mother since 2006.

NONE"The children's rights to call her 'mother' have been violated. Since the murder, we Mongolians have been waiting for an apology from Malaysians.

NONE"The children have been waiting for access to and kind support from (Prime Minister) Mr Najib (Abdul Razak) for seven years.

"It is unfortunate, that the murder has lingered on, but it is still important to have a new court hearing and find justice.

"I would like to ask all Malaysians to vote for justice as the election is on the eve of Altantuya's birthday, on May 6," Shaariibuu says in the statement.

Had she been alive, Altantuya would be 35 years old on Monday.

NONEHuman rights NGO Suaram's lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri (left) met with Shaariibuu last week, when she was in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbataar for a conference.

Shaariibuu met up with Fadiah and issued this statement that he wanted released in Malaysia.

Fadiah said she briefed Shaariibuu about the ongoing judicial inquiry in France, that the French investigation judge has promised to look into his daughter's murder, apart from the payment of illegal commissions and kickbacks.

Altantuya was brutally murdered in a forest near Puncak Alam, near Shah Alam in Selangor, sometime between Oct 18 and 19, 2006.

Three people were charged with her murder, including two Special Action Force officers Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar.

Political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda, a close confidante of Najib, was charged with abetting in the murder.

However, Abdul Razak was acquitted without his defence being called while the two policemen were found guilty and sentenced to death.

The appeal against conviction and sentence by Azilah and Sirul is to be head by the Court of Appeal on June 11. -MK

  1. It was to be expected. Following the damaging statements by Raja Petra Kamarudin about his former friend and ally Anwar Ibrahim, Pakatan Rakyat has gone into overdrive, suddenly dismissing the blogger, better known by his initials RPK, as "irrelevant." (This, of course, was the same word RPK used to describe Anwar's future, as irrelevant.)

    ReplyDelete
  2. Nevertheless, we agree that he may be somewhat "irrelevant" and are delighted that PR has finally come to the same conclusion, even though for the wrong reason.

    ReplyDelete
  3. After all, we didn't hear PR labelling their former colleague as "irrelevant" or a "hired Umno blogger" when he made a statutory declaration accusing Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, of being present at the 2006 murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Of course, we all know by now that RPK famously retracted his sworn statement in an interview in April last year, saying he had been fed incorrect information by people including de facto Opposition leader Anwar. Interestingly, it is PR, which is now referring to RPK's false allegations about Rosmah's involvement in order to discredit him.

  5. "We should not forget that Raja Petra, who is increasingly known as an 'Umno mercenary blogger', had once made sworn statements (on the Altantuya murder)," said PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution. Too bad Saifuddin didn't speak up back then. But at the time it wasn't convenient and in PR's political interest. Now it is.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The ferocity and viciousness of PR's counter-attack is quite astonishing. After all, RPK's key message was legitimate (and likely what many people are quietly thinking): not whether Anwar is gay or not but whether he is really "the best person to run the country" and if "Pakatan has no use for Anwar anymore."

    ReplyDelete
  7. Perhaps RPK touched on a sore spot. He went straight to the heart of widespread internal PR disenchantment and uncertainty about its future leadership. Anwar and his posse, however, are bound to twist and skew every facet of the story, as the narrative reaches its climax on January 9th, calling the latest developments part of Umno's "plot" and "desperation." Saifuddin urged Malaysians to see past these dirty tricks and focus instead on the alleged financial abuse at the National Feedlot Corporation.

  8. Perhaps, in all the excitement of the past few days, he has forgotten that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has raided NFC headquarters and that the investigation into the scandal is "80 percent done," according to federal commercial crime chief Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Meanwhile PKR deputy president Azmin Ali (pictured) is mobilising his troops for a mass rally on January 9th, which will culminate the eight states, six-day whirlwind tour during which Anwar will protest his innocence and reiterate his campaign for change.

    ReplyDelete
  10. "We will gather 100,000 people at the court to show our support to the cause fought by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," Azmin said. That contradicted the statement of PKR young wing leader, Shamsul Iskandar, who said, "we're expecting 20,000 people to turn up at the courthouse following the country-wide tour."

  11. As usual, discrepancies abound. No matter the verdict, we should all get prepared for day of hyperbole and political theatre, dramatic scenes and moving speeches. And then we should finally take RPK's ultimate advice, which is not irrelevant: We should get on with our lives.

  12. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT Opposition getting desperate

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition’s attempt to smear the Barisan Nasional’s (BN) image with all kinds of disparaging statements and fabrications as polling day for the 13th General Election on May 5 approaches, shows that they are getting desperate.

The Deputy Prime Minister was commenting on their resorting to the short-messaging-service (SMS), blogs and social media for their onslaught against the BN.

“I also received certain SMSes, among them which claimed we would be transporting 70,000 voters to Johor because the BN is losing, so we needed to bring in outsiders including Bangladeshis,” he told reporters after attending a 1Malaysia people’s gathering in Taman Tas here Thursday.

Muhyiddin said based on information he had received, the opposition was planning more attacks against the BN including creating a tense atmosphere on polling day.

In this regard, he said the present scenario had imposed an additional burden on the security forces and Election Commission (EC) to correct and diffuse the situation.

“The important thing is that the people know how to wisely decipher the information sent to them or in the blogs and social media,” he said.

As to the position of the BN in the election, Muhyiddin was confident they could achieve victory including in states won by the opposition in 2008.

“BN has the fundamentals for such confidence, which is not based on sheer claims,” he stressed.

According to a GE13 opinion poll conducted by the Institute of Malaysian Political Analysis of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the National Professors Council (MPN), 58 per cent of the respondents supported Najib as prime minister while opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received 42 per cent support.

Based on the survey, BN is also expected to retain Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Perlis, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.

With the rather high level of support for BN in the central, north and east zones, BN also has a good chance to recapture Selangor and Kedah and to give the opposition pact a very tough fight in Penang and Kelantan.

The survey found that 72 per cent of the respondents in the south zone comprising Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan supported Najib as prime minister with also 72 per cent stating they would vote for BN and 28 cent for PR.

  19. The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will consider reopening investigations into the 2006 murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu if there is new evidence, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Bar Council urged the AGC recently to reopen the murder case after lawyer Americk Singh Sidhu revealed at the Malaysian Bar’s annual general meeting that senior lawyer Tan Sri Cecil Abraham was responsible for drafting the late private investigator P. Balasubramaniam’s second statutory declaration (SD) on Altantuya’s murder.

  21. “We will consider the Bar Council’s suggestion, but we just cannot re-open all cases, including those of the 1960s. There must be new evidence to justify the re-opening of a case,” Abdul Gani was reported as saying.

  22. “If there is only talk, we cannot re-open. There must be evidence,” he added. Abdul Gani stressed that caution was needed in order to avoid setting a bad precedent.
