I did not expect to be a victim - Nurul slams sex video conspirators

This is shocking, I did not expect to be a victim - Nurul slams sex video conspiratorsMalaysia's fastest-rising woman politician Nurul Izzah slammed her political enemies for bringing out the "sex" weapon against her as the country hurtled towards the 13th general election.

"Not just against women, it is not a good thing to do against anyone. I think what Saifuddin mentioned yesterday is very clear. So there is nothing more that needs to be said except that we deplore and we reject such gutter politicking," Nurul told Malaysia Chronicle at the sidelines of a press conference on Wednesday.

"And Malaysians I am sure will not be taken in and reject such politics. This is shocking and I guess when I joined politics, I did not expect to be a victim but certainly we do what we can. We remain in the fight because we remain on the side of the truth."

Don't allow M'sian women to be abused and intimidated

Some women groups and activists have begun to react with anger at the news that agents of Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno-BN coalition had threatened to release a video they alleged contained explicit footage of Nurul.

They are demanding tough action from the prime minister, who also happens to be the Women's Minister. So far, there has only been deafening silence from him and the ministry.

"Obviously, this is politically related because of the timing which is too close to the general election to be ignored. But something urgent and strong must be done to protect women because we are very vulnerable to these sort of slander," Tan Poh Lai, the deputy Women's chief of PKR Johor, told Malaysia Chronicle.

"This is a test case for Najib Razak. Is he doing all he can as the Women's Minister? So far, we have not even heard a word from him. Malaysian women must expect more than what they are getting now in terms of rights and opportunities. They cannot allow themselves to be bullied and intimidated like this. It is an even bigger irony when their so-called Women's Minister is not only totally silent on the issue but might also be one of the masterminds behind the sex conspiracies."

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan has however denied his party was involved. "We have better things to do, like governing the country, than fixing cameras in hotel rooms. We also do not campaign based on videos. Instead, we focus on good leaders, good parties and policies," he was reported as saying by the New Straits Times.

Victims of Umno's voracious 'sex drive'

The eldest daughter of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, the 33-year-old Nurul is no stranger to political backstabbing and conspiracies aimed to smear her father and now her through controversial accusations.

Nurul, whom many believe has a good chance to make it as the country's first female prime minister, is as spunky as they get but even so in conservative and predominantly-Muslim Malaysia, it is as she has said "shocking" to be dragged into a sex scandal.

Perhaps this is why Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno party, in particular, has been condemned for its brand of 'sex sex sex' politics. So far, Anwar has borne the brunt of Umno's 'sex drive'.

The ruling party's tactics have resulted in two rounds of trumped-up sodomy charges against Anwar, a 'Datuk T' video that purportedly caught him having sex with a female prostitute, and the latest showing him allegedly engaging in homosexual sex.

Worse is yet to come

It appears that more 'dirt' is yet to come.

According to Saifuddin Nasution, the PKR MP for Machang, party leaders had received threats from Umno-BN agents to unleash a new round of sex videos featuring Nurul, Selangor chief minister Khalid Ibrahim apart from Anwar.

"They want to inflict the maximum damage," Saifuddin had told a press conference on Tuesday.

When asked if the videos contained explicit sexual content, Saifuddin said the agents had labelled the videos XXX-PLUS.

"Sex sex sex will get even worse when campaigning officially begins. We would urge the Umno-BN to heed the people's wishes and compete on a platform of policies and issues," said PKR communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who was also at Tuesday's presser.
