Malaysia Day Tarnished With the Foreign Cultural Fest?

Malaysia Day this year will be bigger and livelier with the entertainment festival organized by the Miri City Council along with Shin Yang Group and Club Celebrities, street party will be held in front of the Imperial Palace Hotel on Sept. 15 from 6 pm until 2 am. The eight-hour event will be hosted by Jin and Ryan of hitz.fm featuring Mizz Nina, DJ Honey G and the Mocha Girls.

Sarawak joined Malaya on 16th September 1963 and as such is formed a Malaysia. Despite the fact that our country has not been fully independent since our country's legal system is still practiced and influenced by the British colonial system. Malaysia should be free to practice its own laws without having to be bound by the British colonial system.

Malaysia Day celebrations in Sarawak especially in Miri are radically inappropriate with custom and local culture. The organizers are more focused on 'Street Party' mere amusement and encourage social asymptomatic occurs among teenagers who hang out until late at night.

The parties concerned should be more focused on the promotion of local culture rather than proud of the foreign entertainment that lull the local people.

Many social problems affecting Muslim youth during the festival, it should be addressed by authorities such as Jakim, Jais and others. They should be advised not to engage with activities that could damage the faith and morals especially Muslim youth are easily influenced by foreign cultures as a way of life.

For non-Muslims it is up to their own discretion to advise their devotees respectively. If their religion does not forbid them involve themselves with extreme entertainment programs, it is their right, but that is obviously Islam forbids its adherents involved with any form of extreme entertainment and vices.

We are ready to cooperate with the Jakim, Jais and the security to curb immoral activities among Muslims in this country, especially the youth. Those involved with immoral activities can damage the future of the nation, religion and race. The country can be colonized again if the youth do not appreciate the freedom we have achieved today.

We call upon the Muslims, especially the youth, do not engage in any activity or extreme entertainment programs and lull as 'street party'. Go back to the true teachings of Islam so that we can achieve real independence in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Yours faithfully,
Jofri Jaraiee
