PKR: Don’t listen to rumours

PKR today sought to quell persistent rumours that its de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim, had agreed to a compromise on the issue of the party’s nomination of Wan Azizah Ismail as its sole candidate for the post of Selangor Menteri Besar.

PKR Secretary-General Saifudin Nasution Ismail released a press statement essentially repeating an earlier statement that the party stood firm on its stand in the matter.

“There’s been no change in PKR’s decision to nominate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR President and State Assemby member for Kajang, as the new Menteri Besar of Selangor,” he said.

“Reports that the Ketua Umum of PKR, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has orally agreed to a compromise as well as various other reports are incorrect.

“The decision and the stand taken by PKR are based on the belief that it must uphold the constitution of Selangor and the system of constitutional monarchy.”
